Flow Cytometry - Cell Sorting

Location: Thomas Building, DE-690
Contact phone: (206) 667-6195
Contact e-mail: flowcytometry@fredhutch.org

The Flow Cytometry Shared Resource provides support for cell sorting.  Cell sorters allow the client to recover a subset of cells from a sample. Cells can be deposited into tubes or 96-well plates for further study.

The facility maintains five fluorescence activated cell sorters and two magnetic bead sorters. Call the lab (206)667-6195 for assistance determining the instrument to use for your specific application. For clients needing after-hours access, training is available.

The lab offers informal one-on-one or small group training to researchers on the proper use of  the cell sorters.  Informal and on-line training is available on the use of lab supported flow cytometry software packages, including CellQuest Pro, FloJo and Multicycle.

A good introduction to flow cytometry principles and practice is found at

Scheduling Time on Flow Cytometers

To schedule time on any of our flow cytometers (except the therapeutic BD Influx), please use iLab. After hours access to lab and instrumentation is dependent upon user completion of training course certification.

You are responsible for the time slot you reserve. If you need to reschedule or cancel, you must do so at least 48 hr before your scheduled start time.

Our cancellation policy:

  • Cancellations are allowed up to 48 hours prior to scheduled time.  Failure to cancel prior to 48 hours will result in a charge for the full amount of time reserved.
  • Experimental failure or patient cancellation within the 48 hour window will result in no more than a one hour charge

How to Access your Data

Data from flow cytometry is transferred to the user's Homelink account. After you log in, you will see a folder called flowlab. Subfolders containing your data are named with the date you did the experiment.

If you do not have a Homelink account, please see Data Storage and Archiving for more information.

The flow cytometry resource supports a variety of desktop software that is available to all users. See Data Analysis links for more information. Contact flow cytometry at 667-6195 or by emailing flowcytometry@fredhutch.org if you would like training in analysis software.
