Research Interests

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)is implicated in several human cancers but is causative of polyclonal and monoclonal B cell malignancies that occur in immunosupressed people. My laboratory is studying the multiprotein complexes involved in B cell immortaliztionby EBV with emphasis on the role played by the Epstein-Barr nuclear protein 2. We are studying the role of the human SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex in transcription regulation by EBV. In addition, we have found that EBNA2 modulates the activity ofa number of other proteins involved in gene expression and cell division. Our lab is studying these interactions and their roles in virus-induced B cell immortalization.
