Research Interests

Dr. Rongvaux studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms of how the immune system detects and responds to the presence of abnormal cells, such as tumor cells or infected cells. His works focuses on addressing two main questions:
  1. how do dying cells affect the activation of the immune response, and
  2. how do innate immune cells, such as macrophages, contribute to the tumor microenvironment?
To answer these questions, Dr. Rongvaux uses a reverse genetic approach, genetically modifying mice in order to investigate the role of a candidate gene in an immune response. His lab is also developing innovative models of humanized mice in which the development and function of human immune cells, such as macrophages, are highly improved compared to previously available models of humanized mice. The reconstitution of patient-derived humanized mice represents a promising approach to test candidate therapeutic approaches in pre-clinical conditions.
