Research Interests

My research focus is diet and physical activity in relation to energy balance and cancer risk. My research projects include both observational and intervention studies. In addition, part of my research focus is on methodological research to improve methods of diet and physical activity assessment and the extent to which biological markers can improve upon measures of self-report. Current projects include a randomized cross-over feeding study of low and high glycemic load diets and their effect on cancer suseptibility biomarkers. A subset of the feeding study subjects participate in a postprandial study to test the effects of the study diets on metabolic parameters throughout the day. Both of these studies are part of the Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer (TREC). In the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT) we are investigating metabolic biomarkers and insulin resistance in relation to prostate cancer risk. In a multi-site cohort of breast cancer suvivors (the Health, Eating, Activity and Lifestyle Study), we are examining the role of vitamin D and breast cancer progression and prognosis.
