Dr. Paul Woloshin, the Hutchinson Center's new vice president of Shared Resources, began his role Jan. 2. He joined the Center last year as Shared Resources' director of operations and succeeds Janell Baldwin, who retired Dec. 30 after 22 years at the helm of the science-support facilities.

"I will direct our efforts towards having Shared Resources be at the forefront of developing leading edge technologies to aid our research community, expand our transparency and level of communication to our constituents, and align with the Center’s strategic objectives," he said.

He plans to maintain the continuity and level of excellence developed by Baldwin and her team over the past two decades. "Janell grew Shared Resources from very humble beginnings into a world class, highly imitated model," said Woloshin of his predecessor and the department's core facilities.

After obtaining an undergraduate economics degree and master’s in business administration, Woloshin worked as a financial planning manager. He later earned a doctoral degree in cell biology and neuroscience at Oregon Health & Sciences University. Woloshin spent a year as a postdoctoral fellow at OHSU before returning to the private sector at two biotechnology companies in Portland, Oregon.

Most recently, Woloshin served as OHSU's director of finance and administration for the Research Division, managing the $300 million Oregon Opportunity fund, a collaboration of private equity managers, corporations, academia, and government.
