Rajesh Uthamanthil - New Director of Comparative Medicine

Rajesh Uthamanthil D.V.M., Ph.D. joined the Hutchinson Center February 1st as the Attending Veterinarian and Director of Comparative Medicine (formerly Animal Health Resources). He supports animal care and related research by Center scientists, as well as helping researchers meet animal welfare  requirements. 

Previously, Dr. Uthamanthil was an associate professor in the department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He trained as a veterinarian in India before pursuing a doctoral degree in comparative biosciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a postdoctoral fellowship in bioengineering at Rice University. 

Dr. Uthamanthil has lengthy experience using animal models of cancer and is interested in small animal imaging to support translational studies. "Translational research is critical for accelerating bench-to-bed translation of novel diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive modalities in cancer," Uthamanthil said. "Supporting translational cancer research is my passion, and I come with experience in multiple roles as a collaborator, researcher and animal care program administrator."
