Computational Biology - Bioinformatics Drop-in Consulting Begins September 2011

Shared Resources is pleased to announce that Computational Biology/Bioinformatics drop-in consulting will be available starting September 2011 on a regular schedule.

Sessions will begin Thursday, September 15, 2011 and will be available on a drop-in basis every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30PM-3:30PM in room A1-133.

Consulting sessions are intended to allow scientific staff the opportunity for drop-in consulting with some members of the Computational Biology/Bioinformatics Shared Resource. These sessions are intended to discuss projects and problems with an emphasis on teaching scientific staff to solve the problems, possibly by hands-on teaching with scientific software available at the Center. Sessions will have special emphasis, and staffing personnel and expertise will be posted.

The Computational Biology/Bioinformatics Shared Resource, operated by the Herbold Computational Biology Program, includes full and part-time staff with a variety of skills allowing it to accommodate a diversity of projects. Experts in the field provide requests for short-term consulting or help to allow researchers to overcome computational barriers that are practically addressable.

The resource works closely with the Genomics and Proteomics Shared Resources and staff from these resources meets routinely to discuss the ongoing projects and assure they are handled appropriately. Assistance can be obtained through the Genomics or Proteomics Shared Resources (the Directors of those resources will get the bioinformatics group involved when needed), by requesting an appointment at or by drop-in sessions at the above times.

The Director of the Bioinformatics Shared Resource is Matt Fitzgibbon.
