Data Storage and Archiving - Server Access

New users

New users in the scientific community (grad students, postdocs, faculty, technicians) wishing a server account should send an email to helpdesk@fredhutch.org requesting a homelink account.

Where to find your data (Homelink and other servers)

The Shared Resources IT group has developed automated systems to handle the transfer of large datasets generated through services provided by several of the Shared Resources (including Comparative Medicine, Electron Microscopy, Flow Cytometry, Genomics, Proteomics, and Scientific Imaging). We support the management of scientific data transfer  to Center IT's long-term storage. Raw and processed versions of the data are sent to various servers, including the server known as “Homelink". Investigators receive a personal directory / home folder on the servers in which they can organize and store their files.

Accessing your files

After data comes off a Shared Resource instrument, it is copied to a user or lab home directory (as indicated by the user) in a subfolder representing the resource where the data was generated.  If you don’t see your data in your homelink folder, please contact the resource and they will have the linking shortcut created.

For example, data from Flow Cytometry would be saved in:
/user_home_directory/flowlab/raw_data_file

PC Users

Connecting to Homelink

Double Click on the ‘My Computer’ icon on your desktop

  1. Select ‘Tools’, then ‘Map Network Drive’
  2. Choose a drive letter that is not currently mapped
  3. Enter: \\homelink\home

The PC will access Homelink using the username and password you used to log-in to the PC. If you wish to access a Homelink account different than the one used to log into the computer, click on connect using a different user name in the Map Network drive window.

Contact Support Information

If you have questions regarding access to the servers or where your data is located please contact Center IT's help desk at 206-667-5700 or helpdesk@fredhutch.org

Apple / MacIntosh users

How to Connect to Homelink Using SMB

  1. Connect to Homelink using GO > Connect to Server > then enter smb://homelink/home
  2. Log-in using your HutchNet ID and password
