Quantitative Gel and Blot Imaging

The resource operates two scanners and dedicated software for the imaging and quantitative analysis of gels, blots, and plates, including applications such as Northern, Southern and Western blots, In Cell Westerns, and more. The Typhoon Trio can image samples labeled with radioactive, fluorescent, or chemiluminescent methods. The Li-Cor Odyssey scanner is recommended for two color fluorescence imaging of Radioactive blot imaged on a Typhoon scanner (top) and quantitative analysis (bottom).Western blots and in cell Westerns (micro-plates) in far red and near infra-red channels. A multi-user site license for ImageQuant TL (IQTL) is available for the analysi sof Typhoon data. Odyssey software for the analysis of data from the Odyssey scanner is available upon demand. Gel, blot and plate data. Data from both scanners can also be quantitated with public domain ImageJ software. The resource will provide training and assistance with instrument operation and image analysis, or will analyze data on request.

Scheduling time for instruments, training, and support:

The Typhoon and Odyssey scanners are available on a first come, first serve basis, and reservations are generaly not needed. It is however recommended to book the instruments if you will be needing them for 30 minutes or longer so that othe rusers can cerify availability, or if you need them at a specific time. To reserve instruments or to schedule staff assistance, please use iLab. All first-time users must schedule a training session with Scientific Imaging. Scanners are accessible to FHCRC employees at all times. Outside customers can access the instruments during normal working hours (Mo-Fr 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM). How to access your data:

Data acquired on Scientific Imaging instruments is transferred to the si folder in the user's fred account. If you do not have a fred account, please submit the computing account application form. Once you have obtained a fred account, please contact Scientific Imaging so that we can create an si link for you. External users without access to fred can obtain their data via ftp, or can download to their own data storage device from one of our dedicated computers. Please note that no portable drives are allowed on instrument computers.
